A Black woman is going viral after she publicly confronted a security guard who falsely accused her of stealing inside a Sephora store.

The woman, who goes by @Thedonrach on social media, said she was shopping at a Sephora location inside the Kohl’s at Lincolnwood Mall when a security guard stopped her over a bottle of perfume. In the video she recorded, the guard accused her of theft, refused to give his name, and then walked away, leaving her and her sister standing with other store employees.

The shopper called out the apparent case of racial profiling as she asked to see the footage of the alleged theft.

“Where are the cameras? Let’s play these cameras back,” the woman said in the video. “Why the f— am I stealing a product that’s $35? Thirty-five dollars?”

The customer accused staff of monitoring her because she was Black and mocked the theft allegation, saying that if she were going to steal, it wouldn’t be something inexpensive.

After reviewing surveillance footage, the security guard returned and apologized, acknowledging that she had not stolen anything. The woman asked for the store number and the employee's name so she could contact an attorney and sue the company for racial profiling.

In a follow-up video, the TikTok user explained that the incident triggered memories of a childhood experience in which she and her sister were arrested after eating candy their mother had already paid for.

“I give people chances,” she said. “But to humiliate me in public is very embarrassing.”
