Founding En Vogue member Dawn Robinson has set the record straight on her current living situation.

During an exclusive interview with Angela Yee on Way Up With Angela Yee, Robinson addressed speculation about her being "homeless" after she revealed in a now-viral video that she had been living in her car for the past three years.

Robinson previously explained that she was living with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020 but moved out of their home after her relationship with her mother became turbulent. The singer said she relocated at the suggestion of her former manager, who offered her a place to stay. Robinson ultimately ended up living in a hotel for eight months and began researching "car life" after having trouble securing an apartment.

“I felt free,” she said of her decision to live in her car. “I felt like I was on a camping trip. It just felt like it was the right thing to do.”

In the now-viral video, Robinson added that she was "absolutely" happy with her move.

"This is not like, 'Oh my God, poor Dawn. She's living in her car. It's terrible. Oh, woe is me,'" Robinson said. "I'm learning about who I am. I'm learning myself as a person, as a woman."

The video sparked fan concern about Robinson's living situation and conversation about the music industry not taking care of successful Black artists.

During her recent conversation with radio show host Angela Yee, Robinson made it clear that she wasn't "forced into homelessness."

"I made a choice," Robinson said, noting that she was upset how some people were "tearing apart" her "car life" decision.

The En Vogue alum explained that she could've stayed at the hotel or figured out a living situation with her former manager.

"I had been researching car life and decided to take control," Robinson told Yee.

During the interview, Robinson also revealed how she was "broke" while selling millions of records and packing international shows for En Vogue. Robinson said she's documenting her journey to bring awareness to similar situations other Black artists have faced, as well as car life.

"It's a temporary situation, it's not forever," Robinson noted, adding, "This is an awakening. This is time for healing."
