A Virginia woman was killed after being "intentionally" hit by a car while on an evening walk with her husband.

Derek Bizzell said his wife, Shaunda Bizzell, decided to join him for an evening walk in their Chesterfield, Virginia neighborhood on Monday (March 25) when they were unexpectedly hit by a car. Derek said it looked like the car was targeting them.

“We walked around the curb,” Derek told WWBT. “We could see a car coming up the middle of the street like cars always do, and then he got closer to us. I could see him veer. I screamed her name, and all I heard was the thump.”

The crash flung Shaunda's body in the air before she landed on top of a nearby car. Derek's body was thrown under the same car.

“I couldn’t talk, but some people from the neighborhood came and took my phone and they were able to talk to 911,” Derek told the outlet.

Chesterfield County Police said they were already in the area responding to a suspicious call from a man who threatened to shoot a school, bomb a building, and assault police officers. Officers determined that the same man who had made the threatening call was the driver of the car that hit the couple.

Shaunda was taken to a hospital where she later died. Derek survived the crash.

The driver of the car, identified as 22-year-old Daniel N. Anderson, “intentionally steered his vehicle toward the pedestrians,” according to police. Anderson was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, making threats of death or bodily injury, and making threats to bomb or damage buildings.

“I’m a little banged up,” Derek said of the incident, “but if I could trade places with my wife, I would.”
