A Black man who was arrested for impersonating police revealed why he ended up calling the cops on himself. Davonte Clyde Thompson, a 29-year-old living in Miramar, was booked into jail last week after pulling off the strange incident last Tuesday (January 22), according to WPLG.
The Pembroke Police Department said they got a call from Thompson, who identified himself as an officer, about a reckless driver he pulled over in the parking lot of a bank located at 7999 Pines Boulevard. When authorities arrived at the scene, they determined Thompson used a stolen police badge to conduct an illegal traffic stop.
Investigators said the badge belonged to a retired deputy from the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana.
The news station learned Thompson was jailed for one count of false impersonation of a police officer. He posted a $2,500 bond on Wednesday (January 23) and spoke with WPLG reporter Christian De La Rosa about why he did the crime.
“I just wanted them to do their job and get them off the street,” Thompson admitted, referring to police.
De La Rosa also pressed Thompson about whether he identified himself as an officer to the driver he pulled over, and the 29-year-old simply replied, "No further questions."
