A white former police detective long accused of sexually preying on Black women in Kansas City, Kansas has been charged with federal civil rights crimes involving sexual assault, per NBC News.
On Thursday (September 15), retired detective Roger Golubski, 69, was arrested after a federal grand jury indicted him on six counts related to the rape of two women while he was working for the Kansas City Police Department, the FBI said.
Golubski appeared in court Thursday and pleaded not guilty. He will remain in custody as he awaits a second hearing set for Monday (September 19).
Golubski's indictment follows an FBI probe into allegations that he sexually assaulted Black women in Kansas City and traded drugs for information during criminal investigations.
The investigation was backed by Black activists and Jay-Z's Team Roc, who had previously called for a wider probe into the Kansas City Police Department.
"We continue to stand in solidarity alongside the people of Kansas City, Kansas, who have been patiently waiting for justice and accountability," said Dania Diaz, the director of Team ROC. "The arrest of Roger Golubski is a significant step toward creating a safer community and we applaud the Department of Justice for their commitment, diligence, and thorough work on this investigation."
The federal indictment accuses Golubski of sexually assaulting two unidentified women on multiple occasions from 1998 to 2002.
Golubski allegedly raped both women and forced them to perform oral sex on him in his vehicle and at their homes, per the indictment.
He could face life in prison if convicted on any of the counts.
