Last month, the world of sports was shaken up when news of a domestic violence incident involving former Seattle Seahawks lineman Chad Wheeler surfaced. More importantly, Alleah Taylor's life was forever changed.
On January 23, the former New York Giants lineman allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend, Alleah Taylor, in their Seattle area apartment. Wheeler is accused of beating and choking Taylor until she fell unconscious. After regaining consciousness, Taylor reportedly hid in the bathroom and called the authorities. When authorities arrived, Wheeler was taken into custody before being let out on bail. He currently faces eight to 12 years in prison. Meanwhile, Taylor is left to recover from a dislocated elbow and a fractured humerus. She has also experienced headaches, dealt with neck pain and vomited large amounts of blood following the attack.
In the immediate aftermath, Taylor reportedly wished to remain anonymous. After taking time to begin recovering from the incident, she sat down with Jericka Duncan of CBS This Morning for her first on-camera interview.
"I still have to regularly get my concussion checked," Taylor told Duncan when asked about her injuries.
"I have bolts and a steel plate I'm going to have forever in my arm. I'm going to have to deal with this the rest of my life."
As news of the incident made its way around the timeline, it was revealed that Wheeler had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. However, Taylor is not sure that played a factor in the attack.
"To be honest, I don't know," she said when asked if bipolar disorder played a role in the alleged attack.
"He went and ate dinner after doing this to me and he didn't take the same approach with the cops as he did with me."
During the interview, Taylor also noted that Wheeler made her bow before her during the alleged attack and nonchalantly said that he was surprised she lived through it all.
Wheeler pleaded not guilty to first-degree domestic violence assault, resisting arrest and domestic violence unlawful imprisonment. He is not allowed to make contact with Taylor.
