President-Elect Joe Biden's Inaugural Committee has announced that the former Vice President will participate in a virtual parade across the country on Inauguration Day. Similar to the Democratic National Convention, the parade is being held in a digital manner to help curb the spread of COVID-19. Along the virtual parade route, Americans can watch performances and remarks of public figures across the map.
"The parade will celebrate America's heroes, highlight Americans from all walks of life in different states and regions, and reflect on the diversity, heritage, and resilience of the country as we begin a new American era," the inaugural committee stated.
The latest move from the Biden administration aligns with their previous message encouraging Americans not to travel to Washington, D.C. later this month. The political duo will also participate in a significantly scaled-down ceremony on January 20 instead of the usual grand celebration.
After Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris are sworn in, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Second Gentlemen Doug Emhoff will take part in a pass in review on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol with members of the military.
"Pass in Reviews are a long-standing military tradition that reflect the peaceful transfer of power to a new Commander-in-Chief, during which the President-elect, hosted by the Commander of Joint Task Force-National Capital Region, will review the readiness of military troops. Every branch of the military will be represented in this event," the inaugural committee said.
After being sworn in, Biden will travel from 15th Street to the White House with a presidential motorcade. The committee hopes that by doing so that there will still be historic images of the day.
"[The presidential motorcade will provide] the American people and world with historic images of the President-elect proceeding to the White House without attracting large crowds and gatherings," the committee stated.
Inauguration Day is set for January 20.
