AP: Trump Set Record In Ohio, Gathers More Votes Than Any Other Candidate

President Donald Trump not only won Ohio in the 2020 presidential election, he appears to have set a record.

The Associated Press gathered each county’s certified results, which show that Trump garnered more votes than any candidate ever has in the state, the news organization reported Monday (November 23).

Ohio voters cast more than 3.1 million ballots for Trump — exceeding the previous record of more than 2.9 million votes for former President Barack Obama in 2008 — and solidified his win in the state with about 53% of the votes, according to the AP.

Gov. Mike DeWine publicly predicted multiple times that Trump would win Ohio again, as he did in the 2016 election.

Once, he cast the prediction hours before the presidential debate in Cleveland. DeWine reiterated his prediction on Election Day (November 3), foreseeing a close race.

DeWine has often shown his support of Trump, but acknowledged in a recent interview on CNN that “we need to consider” Biden president-elect.

Days later, Trump predicted a “hotly contested” race for the Ohio governor's race in 2022.

Democratic candidate Joe Biden snagged about 45% of Ohio’s votes, and ultimately was projected to win the election nationally. Ohio has otherwise sided with the winning presidential candidate all but once since World War II, the AP reported.

The Trump campaign has officially authorized the transition to Biden, though Trump still aims to challenge election results in other states.
