Black Man Found Hanging From Basketball Rim in Sacramento

A family in Sacramento, California is demanding answers after Willie Brown, Jr. was found hanging from a basketball rim. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, who is investigating the incident, made the discovery Monday (October 19) morning in Countryside Community Park, per the Sacramento Bee

The 38-year-old father of four is currently being kept alive through life support. A ventilator is maintaining his lung function, but friends and family of Brown say his brain is not responsive

A vigil was organized Friday (October 23) near the park where Willie Brown, Jr was found.

Jonathan Brown, the victim’s brother, told vigil-goers “I want to get to the bottom of this.”

Sergeant Rodney Grassmann, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, stated that their investigation does not “indicate that this is anything but a suicide [attempt].” According to Grassmann, investigators have not found any signs of foul play and claim they have relayed the family of the victim this information.

Willie Brown, Jr.’s mother, Sandra Brown, stated she nor her husband have not received a call from the sheriff’s office about what happened to their son. At the vigil, she made clear that she wants to know more information, stating “I don’t know what happened; I wish I did. But the little bit I hear just don’t add up.” She added, “And I’m standing here today expecting, demanding a full and thorough complete investigation to tell me what happened to my son.”
