Tips to Help You Stop Being Late All the Time

Lifehacker has compiled a list of things you can do to prevent yourself from being late for your next activity. Here they are:

  1. Never explain why you’re late.If you don’t allow yourself to make excuses, you’ll stop letting yourself off the hook.
  2. Delete something from your schedule. When you have that free time, use it to get ready for the next appointment.
  3. Calculate how much your lateness costs you.If you’re paid hourly, find out how much less you make when you clock in late.
  4. Think about your most chronically late friend or colleague.Stir up all the frustration you’ve ever felt with them; now think about other people feeling that way toward you.
  5. Plan exactly what you’ll do on your phone while you wait.Get excited, not for the thing you’re heading to, but for those five minutes alone before it starts.
  6. Set multiple alarms. Not to wake up, but to reach benchmarks in your morning routine.
  7. Do all the “bulls**t” parts of travel prep the night before.Pick your outfit, pack your bag, find your keys and your umbrella.
  8. Prep for an earlier bedtime. As soon as you get home, before you plop on the couch, do some of the things that you normally put off until the end of the night.
  9. Time your shower.Give yourself five minutes--or three--to wash up and avoid daydreaming.
  10. Make others arrive on time.If you’re the one who’s always on time, encourage others to do the same by making their lateness an embarrassing moment or by giving yourself a limit for how long you’ll wait.
