Colin Kaepernick Convinces Nike to Pull American Flag-Themed Shoe

TMZ is reporting that former NFL quarterback and Nike spokesman Colin Kaepernick convinced Nike to stop the sale of a sneaker he considered offensive. The popular Air Max 1 sneakers were to feature an early version of the American flag, as created by Betsy Ross. Kaepernick believes the flag has a connection to slavery and is highly concerned that at least two white nationalist groups use that version of the flag to represent their groups. Nike had sent some sneakers out to retailers, but asked that the shoes be returned. According to the Smithsonian, the flag that inspired the shoe was made in the 1770s to represent the 13 original colonies.
