R. Kelly Sexual Abuse Accuser Wins Default Judgment in Civil Lawsuit

R. Kelly lost a civil lawsuit this week that was brought against him by a woman who claims the singer sexually assaulted her while she was underage. The Chicago Tribune reports that Kelly was served a court summons last month while locked up in Cook County Jail for failing to pay back child support, but never filed an appearance in the lawsuit and did not show up on Tuesday. While Judge Moira Johnson granted the request filed by the alleged victim’s legal team to enter a judgment against Kelly, it could still be reversed if Kelly gets an attorney involved in the suit. The alleged victim, now 36, alleged in the suit filed in February claims in her filing that Kelly initiated sexual contact with her beginning in June 1998, when she was just 16.
